Don’t get me wrong. I do want the Republican Party to maintain majorities in the U.S. Congress as a result of the upcoming mid-term elections. With very little credit to it as a functional party should it occur, such a result will likely be the last useful act for the betterment of the Late Republic of what has devolved into a useless “organization” of happy losers. Two more years of sitting on their hands at least keeps the rabid Democrats at bay while Mr. Trump continues to stamp Trumpian Americanism (as branded when he took up the cause of the 2010 Tea Party after it was knifed in the back by mcconnell republicanism) on more and more across the globe. Much more good could be done.
But such majorities certainly aren’t necessary in my book…the mid-term elections will just choose the path our (rare) Proud Executive takes us on during those last 24 months. It is a fact the Mr. Trump will be a lame duck by definition regardless – alas, I don’t see majorities in both (or even one) house of Congress as necessary. A full or partial Republican minority party is mostly useless to their lame duck President…such a party sitting idle or actively working with the insane Democrat Party against their own President will make for a convenient enemy (in addition to “conservative chief justice” John Roberts) to focus on…yes, there could be another two or three impeachments. And a conviction in the Senate and removal from office? I double dog dare the twits in a Republican minority to go along with that. Trump the fighter…as witnessed from 2021-2025 while out of office and being persecuted by a fully corrupt Biden Administration…is not likely to let his unavoidable “lame duck” period progress like just another happy loser from the Republican Party. Time and the power (temporarily) granted him will likely not be wasted…buckle up.
Speaking of twits in the Republican Party, it seems Mr.Trump doesn’t care much for them already:
Trump Goes Scorched Earth: Cornyn and His ‘Liddle Buddy’ Karl Rove Trying to Hand TX to a Democrat
President Trump launched a blistering attack late Thursday against Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and his “Liddle Buddy,” Karl Rove, accusing them of working to undermine Ken Paxton’s U.S. Senate campaign in Texas. …
The president’s ire, however, was keenly focused on Paxton and Rove, who have opted not to unify behind a clearly more qualified conservative candidate, and instead seem content to let the Democrat oddity take a Senate seat from Texas….
“John Cornyn, who, after my Endorsement, lost the Primary to Ken by a very wide margin, and Karl Rove…should be ashamed of themselves,” he continued. “They are hurting Texas and, more importantly, hurting the United States of America!”
“If Ken Paxton loses, it will be because of WEAK and INEFFECTIVE Political Hacks like John Cornyn and Karl Rove, who have ineffectively opposed me for my entire political career.” …
Cornyn, meanwhile, has also drawn fire for failing to aggressively push the SAVE America Act, the election integrity bill that would require proof of citizenship to register and photo ID to vote.
After co-sponsoring and voting for the measure, he later dismissed further efforts to pass it as unrealistic, opposed canceling the August recess to force action, and publicly declared the bill “not gonna happen.”
He was effectively siding with Democratic obstruction instead of fighting to overcome it. And he did so to the detriment of Republican candidates in the midterms.
I have posted several times about this Cornyn saga – here, here, here, here, and here – his true colors have long been known and his charade with respect to the Save America Act during the primary and run-off was embarrassingly transparent. His continued behavior is no surprise. (It should be noted that even Mr. Paxton’s estranged wife has added to the campaign in a carefully worded TV spot calling for party unity.)
What interests this (non-Republican) observer is what appears to be a great miscalculation by the “Happy Loser” wing of the Republican Party for what in in store for them in the post-Trump era. Whatever that pipeline of talent may have once been has atrophied greatly in the last ten years…not to mention, it has idled into irrelevancy. The party organization, the Congressional management (none dare call it leadership), the old breed of network-acceptable round table tokens…all are atrophied, irrelevant, and useless to a post-Trump pro-American electorate.
For the record: As these mid-term elections come to pass, Paxton will win, Rove and Cornyn will still be irrelevant losers, the Republican Party of the embarrassing “compassionate conservative” marketing gimmick (and follow-on mistaken strategy of “big-tent-ism at any cost”) will continue to die away, and Trump will be a Lame Duck like no other in American History.
