Failure Theater as orchestrated under the watchful eye of Mitch McConnell was a tired exercise by the end of 2012. It was just an oft repeated insult by 2014. (Never Forget Mississippi 2014!) It was during a Friday morning interview of Cornyn on a local AM radio program (The Mark Davis Show?) that summer that I wrote off this unapologetic toady of McConnellism. He never received another vote (or even kind-ish word of support) in any shape or form from me again.

His behavior (and electioneering) in 2026 leading up to the primary and right on through the runoff was so transparently disingenuous…it was pathetic. Ultimately, he did not lose the Republican nomination because of the Trump endorsement…he lost it because he spent the better part of the last two decades with his nose so far up Mitch McConnell’s ass that he was more of a walking shit stain (by mass) than a man…let alone a Texas Republican. Texas Republicans were over him.

Alas, for the next several months he is free to show us all his true character and just how out of step he is with the Party that realigned away from all of the losing under Failure Theater and insulting condescension from the actors involved. So, none of this is really surprising:

Trump Calls Tillis’ and Cornyn’s Bluff on Blanche Nomination

…lame duck Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and John Cornyn (R-TX) are holding up the full nomination vote for Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to become the next United States Attorney General. Why? Because they’re petty and because they can. Both hate President Donald Trump, and Cornyn was primaried due in no small part to Trump backing his Republican opponent, TX AG Ken Paxton, now the Republican nominee for the Texas United States Senate seat.

President Trump is so over lame duck Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX).

Cornyn, of course, is bitter that the president endorsed Ken Paxton, Cornyn’s opponent in the Texas Senate primary race. Paxton won and Cornyn is determined to be a thorn in the president’s side until the bitter end.

One of the ways he’s doing that is by stalling the nomination of Todd Blanche to be the next Attorney General (AG). …Cornyn has joined the likes of Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) to use the Anti-Weaponization Fund as an excuse to keep Blanche from becoming AG. Due to the makeup of the Senate, and the fact that no Democrat will support Blanche, all Republicans must vote for Blanche in order for him to be confirmed – and that’s exactly what has made Cornyn power-mad of late.

As for Tillis, he was always destined to NOT be any better than this. He is the direct product of the gospel as preached by the old guard at RedState (my on-line home at the time): Vote most conservative in the primary, then vote Republican in the general election. While a good general policy, it is the “no matter what” implied at the end I had (and still have) some heartburn with. Blind adherence to such a policy given the usually overwhelming power of incumbency in the era of voter apathy was always fraught with peril. Tillis has been kind enough over the years to prove my point for me.

Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) office supplied a new image of the senator … as well as a note from the Congressional Office of the Attending Physician (OAP) updating on McConnell’s progress while he is rehabilitating after a June 14 fall which resulted in his being hospitalized, and informing the public that McConnell is not yet cleared to return to the Senate. …

The anti-incumbent fervor of the nation’s electorate, coupled with a number of members of Congress disappearing from both bodies, has sparked criticism, along with wild conspiracy theories about McConnell’s absence from the Senate and whether he is still among the living. But despite these sentiments and viewpoints, it appears McConnell will choose to inform and update about his health and recovery as he and his staff see fit.

The real “public servant” character (of both the man and the controlling staff) is fully on display here. Whatever games they are playing, make no mistake: Your Ruling Class knows exactly what and how much is owed to you. Now sit down and shut up. It will be good to see these three leave the scene in January…even with the moderate irritation around the anus of the Republican Party they will continue to inflict until then. Unfortunately, there will still be the piles from Maine and Alaska to bother us after that.

I will end with a hopeful prediction for a happier time in this matter in the near future: On or about September 10 or this year, President Trump is likely going to stand at the podium right here in Cornyn’s home state where he will (in part) insult, berate, and mock the lame duck (and poor excuse for a) U.S. Senator from the state of Texas…to the joyously roaring crowd of Republicans gathered to support a platform and a team geared toward using the winning hand to actually…well…win.
