I’ve seen it posited that the Republican majority in the House could mess up and accidentally elect a Democrat as Speaker while voting their conscience and/or playing politics well within the boundaries of their rights as elected Representatives of their districts. Advanced theories even suggest a band of 20 or so Republicans might join with the Democrats to elects a “bipartisan” Speaker. Either case would validate just how galactically stupid I have come to believe most of the creatures of the American Power Beltway actually are but…then again…neither would do much to change the trajectory of this slow motion, controlled, insidious, demise-by-choice of the once great Republic that we are living though. There are benefits to hitting rock bottom sooner rather than later…
So, as the former Republican that I am (Never Forget Mississippi 2014! and Effff Mitch and the entire Barbour Clan), I sit here this evening in full support of either of the moronic options above that the “best and the brightest” among our Ruling Class might choose to undertake. With that, the whole two-party system charade comes to a rather abrupt end in January 2023 and the trek through the abyss begins in search of a “We the People” who actually believe in American-style liberty and who will be much more protective of it than the modern Progressives and their rationalizing enablers <<SPIT>> within our perimeter. (They may even get greatly exercised by targeted disenfranchisement through year round voting with uncontrolled, unaccountable mail-in ballots. But I digress.)
“It is idle to talk about preventing the wreck of Western civilization. It is already a wreck from within. That is why we can hope to do little more now than snatch a fingernail of a saint from the rack or a handful of ashes from the faggots, and bury them secretly in a flowerpot against the day, ages hence, when a few men begin again to dare to believe that there was once something else, that something else is thinkable, and need some evidence of what it was, and the fortifying knowledge that there were those who, at the great nightfall, took loving thought to preserve the tokens of hope and truth.” – Whittaker Chambers as quoted by William F. Buckley in the foreword of my copy of WITNESS.
I’ve said as far back as 2015 that it is our duty to American posterity to either demand to stop the decline and turn back now or march on in with a deliberateness that intends on facing the worst as soon as possible and emerging on the other side. While I have not been watching today’s events in the House in close detail, I stand firmly with those who will not vote for McCarthy on principle. I admire the individuals and their show of spine.
A refreshing change indeed.

It is too bad that the running commentary over six years of comments attached to the post has been lost to the ether. Luckily, I still have them…someday I will mine them posting material…
