Highlight Reel – (Some of) The Best of the Never Trump Ouija Board

As posted over at the legacy site a few minutes ago…

Just for New Year’s Day entertainment value, I decided to follow up on my comment from a couple of days ago where I noted that someday I would like to get a peek at the Never Trump Ouija Board that instills so much cocksurety into all of the mind-reading proclamations that are so generously provided to us in that familiar condescending tone. Since that peek will never be shared the next best approach seemed to be a review of some of the most notable output from the all-knowing talking board during this last election season.

For this episode, I will avoid the mindreading classics – like how the desire to shore up during the transition period the ability to use recess appointments if needed at a later date clearly means Trump wishes to trash the Constitution and how mentioning payback for the lawfare waged upon him clearly means Trump intends lawfare in return…or, more specifically, to give us “double-plus Garland” – and instead focus (mostly) just on the “TRUMP CAN’T WIN” line of cocksurety. (Be sure to keep an eye out for the caveats in small print associated with these. I assure you they are there. <<GIGGLE>>.)

Let us begin in June 2023 with this one:

Trump cannot win a general election, and Republicans who are so flipping stoopid as to support him anyway instead of actual grown up candidates deserve the misery that we will surely face.

Definitely checked the “condescending tone” box on that one.

Next, three entries from December 2023:

…Trump supporters need to answer how we get around this coming disaster. Frankly, if Trump supporters are going to saddle us with a clearly unelectable candidate, they owe it to the rest of the party to explain how Trump can win. We are barreling towards an easily foreseeable disaster; like the Titanic racing towards an iceberg.

…[because of] the lawfare Trump is receiving, he is damaged and unelectable. … Their support for Trump is putting us into this electorally impossible situation.

Why nominate a sure loser?

So, as of December of 2023, the path to the presidential election later the next year was “easily forseeable”?   (At some point during this last year, one must wonder if they started doubting the power of that NT Ouija Board. Maybe by mid-July? But I digress.)

Now, if my notes are correct, five entries from what appears to be the peak period of talking board activity (January 2024):

This isn’t an ad for Joe Biden. Grandpa Badfinger doesn’t even have to be on the ticket. Every single Democrat – for the House and for the Senate – is going to make this election a referendum on Donald Trump.

…your insistence in renominating Donald Trump has assured that you will fight this battle on the terrain of the enemy’s choosing.

You want power but you don’t want to earn the power through the system bequeathed to you as an American. You want to invest it one man with 4,000 lawsuits, 2 impeachments and 92 indictments shackled to his ankles. And you can think that it’s bull, and you can think that your fellow Americans are stupid for caring about it. Good luck with that. It’s a bold strategy, Cotton. Hope it works out for you.

He can’t win, and your loyalty has blinded you. I’m about to be a third time voter for him, but the writing is on the wall, plain as day.

They want to face Trump, because they know they can beat him. They already have. And they know felony convictions will hurt him in the general…Republicans marched right into the meat grinder on this one.

Are you seeing the caveats I warned you about?

Surely, after November 5 they put the toy away. Nope. (And stop calling me Shirley.) See just earlier this week:

[Michelle Obama] would have wiped the floor with Trump.

Trump is a fraud who has no principles other than his own self glorification.

Oh. Sorry. That last one slipped back into the mind-reading category. But, clearly, the Never Trump Ouija knows its target so well…why not just leave it there for easy future reference.

Happy New Year from the Lower Member Feed.

    1. WC,

Just saw this…sorry it took so long. I fear that I am on my way to being “inactivated” over there.

Just bookmarked your blog and figured out how to comment.

      Thanks,

I appreciate your frustration with the NT’s. I am quite confident that you will be unable to link to one of my comments or posts that would add to this tranche of dire NTism.
On the other hand, while I have shared your frustration about the NT posts on R, I nonetheless, appreciate that they are still there.
R is allegedly a forum for right leaning polite and intellectual debate. So it swerves pretty frequently out of that mode. On the other hand, I think it is truly important to hear the thoughts, and religious beliefs of the NT’s, then and now. Yes NT is a religion!. It still amazes me how many people aver that Trump stated “fine people in Charlottesville” or “losers in cemeteries in France” or that he stated he would “do his daughter, who wouldn’t” while on the Stern show. While all of these things are verifiably false, that a majority of Libs believe them (along with NT’rs) is a fact we need to be aware of and deal with.

  2. No real disagreement here…and a fine use of “allegedly”.

From my perspective, it is easy to brush off the big ticket cases like Charlottesville when everyone already knows it is bunk. But it is the small leaps of logic or twists of selectively clipped factoids that NT uses – from site hero down to any of a number of pedantic loiterers – to jump start their ranting for the day. It usually takes a page or two of comments before most catch on.

If you step back from the “discussion” a bit and watch this occur over a number of posts, you start to recognize the phenomenon quite clearly…and the “conversations” all start to blur together into the same thing. Then the same crew (includes a moderator or two) comes in every time on page six of the comments to grind back and forth over the same arguments that were clarified back on page 1.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a quality comment.
