The Predictable Shelf-Life on Cornyn’s Modified Limited Hangout on the Save America Act

Just putting a marker here for later discussion…but clearly, any result other than a move to a run-off after this week’s Republican Primary for U.S Senate in Texas will be bad for the Save America Act. I’m not sure if anything can save the act at this point, but a clear win or a clear loss in the primary will allow Cornyn to go back to being the tool for leadership that he was groomed to perfection to be under Mitch…expect Failure Theater to rule again.

Regardless, the Cornyn “use by date” for this bill expires no later than the May 26 run-off.

Background from mid-January:

JUST IN: Cornyn Opens Door To SAVE Act After Pressure From MAGA Activists

Senator John Cornyn’s recent engagement with fellow Republicans over the SAVE Act signifies a notable shift in his approach, particularly as he faces mounting pressure from his conservative base. … This development comes after months of stalled momentum, showing that grassroots activists have become a significant force in shaping the legislative agenda.

Initially, Cornyn’s hesitance to align with more hardline conservative stances made him a target for criticism. … The political landscape in Texas has become intensely competitive, and incumbents like Cornyn must respond to the demands of their constituents to secure their positions.

… this focus on election integrity intersects with broader conservative movements that advocate for a return to merit-based governance. Cornyn must navigate this landscape as he faces a significant primary challenge that could hinge on how well he aligns with the evolving priorities of conservative voters.
