A Proper Filter Through Which to Look Back on the Modern American Progressive Movement

I will not pretend to be the proper authority to define exactly what should be meant by “modern American Progressive movement” or the precise life cycle in our still developing history of that socially, culturally, and politically destructive beast. I only bring the subject up today to briefly turn back to this wonderful little social media exchange seen over at Instapundit a week ago that provides a proper focus for all history to be written yet of these times in and around the American Republic:

[David Harsanyi:] Throughout my life, leftist ideology has increasingly pervaded every cultural space. And Democrats have acted as if it was all apolitical. “Polarization” is when you notice.

[Randy Barnett:] There was no “culture war” until we fought back.

As I have said of other topics of interest to me, the history of the history of this very intellectually un-serious era in America will be something to watch as it evolves and solidifies. How close it is to being correct will depend greatly on the proper use of filters like the one above.
