Well, now that I have a title, let’s see where this goes…
Never content to operate within the boundaries of legitimate and fact-based domains regarding politics and associated discourse (note…everything is politics) – because, of course, the intellectually bankrupt nature of their entire worldview shines too bright against basic, honest Americanism in such environments – the modern American Progressive class must necessarily muddy every news cycle with lies, hoaxes, pseudo-events, and laughably ridiculous planted narratives. Anything to keep the focus off of their failures…even if today’s benefit will need to be countered by more lies, hoaxes, pseudo-events, and laughably ridiculous planted narratives down the road. (The lack of any compunction to even appear intellectually consistent makes this all very easy for them and their enablers…even those inside our perimeter.)
One of the achievements of Stalinism was, in effect, that in spite of the fact that plenty of information was available contradicting the official picture, it was possible to impose the latter upon journalists… – The Great Terror, Page 467
The sad thing is, this has proven to be a wildly successful strategy over most of the last 35 years (or more) from sea to shining sea. The modern American Progressive class are clowns…and, it seems, American Lemmings just love clowns.
For the sake of my discussion today, let us return to my thoughts around from late 2021 about the recession of 1991:
For those unfamiliar, that was a rather average 8-month recession that lasted from July 1990 to March 1991. (Note that the end of it was more than 18 months before the 1992 presidential election.) Interestingly, the official outlet for such things (i.e. the National Bureau of Economic Research) did not announce the end of that recession until December 22, 1992. (Note that the announcement came several weeks after the 1992 presidential election.) If you were politically aware of things back then, you will remember the Clinton Campaign, aided by the reliably Leftist media including the trusted nightly news anchors of the day and their near monopoly on dictating the narrative, took full advantage of this to hammer home the mantra “THE WORST ECONOMY IN 50 YEARS” for many, many months. Also, for the historically ill-informed out there, that reference timeframe meant something for a key voting demographic that tended to get more conservative at their age. You do the math.
Admittedly, I was in my early twenties and finishing up my formal education in central Iowa at the time so I was likely somewhat isolated but…I remember the rhetoric and the headlines feeling very disconnected from reality. Especially since I had at least vague memories of the late 70’s and early 80’s as being much worse, at least in the rural areas and economies to which I was exposed. So, even to this newcomer to political awareness, it was all obvious political theater. But in those days of a much more limited media and cable news presence, the tautological treatment of this story line with so much seriousness became the national narrative.
There were a lot of dynamics in play over that 18 months leading up to the election but, make no mistake about it: the beast took down George H. W. Bush and the pervasive messaging behind “THE WORST ECONOMY IN 50 YEARS” played a major part. – The Worst Economy in Eighty Years
How might things have played out if GHWB could have built on his Gulf War popularity over those 18 months on a domestic playing field that featured a strengthening economy instead of having to battle the “WORST ECONOMY IN 50 YEARS” mantra from the reliably incurious narrative-parroting wing of the DNC commonly referred to as the mainstream media? Maybe he wins? Maybe Bubba and Hill have to wait until 1996 to go to DC? Maybe the Democrat pipleline refills more organically by then and the country and the world are never subjected to the intellectual and moral gravity-sink that is Team Clinton? How does that change The Court and its recent history? How does that change the history around the Twin Towers and beyond? Things surely would be different today…maybe better, maybe worse…but certainly different. But there was a path that would have happened within the boundaries of legitimate and fact-based domains as established by the moral and rational actions of the accepted system…until that path was distorted and derailed by the desire of the American Left for power…illegitimate power if they must.
That brings me to this week, where many months of lying for the short-term benefit around monthly economic reporting (Jobs Revision: 818,000 Jobs Just Went “Poof”) had to be admitted (or revised) in order to affect another distorting change to allow for more lies, hoaxes, pseudo-events, and laughably ridiculous planted narratives over the next two-plus months (and beyond)…again because of the desire of the American Left for power…illegitimate power if they must.
And it appears they will get the desired distorting change on their schedule instead of that which is right for the American people. Strictly speaking, the latter would have required honesty from the start but even a little honest professionalism to counter the raw politics of the day would be nice here. I will pretend here that the powers that be don’t know full well that the books they are fed publicly every month are fully cooked: How would the Fed have reacted over the last year if it was acting on honestly reported numbers (jobs, inflation, etc.)? Things would be different today…maybe better, maybe worse…but certainly different. But we will never really know what the state of the system would be today because the American Progressive class can never play within the boundaries of legitimate and fact-based domains as established by the moral and rational actions of the accepted system.
The intentional de-evolution of western civilization (as driven by defective minds) is a sad thing to witness.
Enjoy the clown show, folks.
