Yes, there is certainly unrestrained celebration tonight over at the Obama compound…for today we are witnessing the beginning of the end of our paid-in-advance subscription to undefined “Hope and Change.” Even most of the true believers back then never dared to dreamed of anything more than permanent radical Left/Progressive governance. The unraveling of the American society and all that made it exceptional was never more than their leader’s wildest wet dream. Yet, here we are.

To be honest, I’m not even reading or listening to much about it tonight. I’m just perusing headlines:

The Most Dangerous Day in the History of Our Country in Our Lifetimes (H/T Instapundit: “The Roman Republic ended in no small part because of legal shenanigans like this, where no one could afford to surrender power for fear of political prosecutions.”)

I suspect that the concept of “antifragility” will come into play in the coming days and weeks. (To quote myself: “Interesting how the extended irrational temper tantrum that the left (and their enablers within our perimeter) have insisted on maintaining since 2016 has only served to work harden the natural characteristics of [Mr. Trump] into a rare form of political antifragility.”) Will it be enough? What does that even mean and what will/can it look like? So many questions. I may begin to look for answers tomorrow…

For now, two things from my posting history come to mind. The first, relating to the events of the day: ‘The Blatancy is the point‘ (August 26, 2023):

I have often phrased it as something like “they don’t even bother to hide the corruption anymore” but the fact that it has always seemed more aggressive than that has gnawed at my mind for quite some time. But there it is: The show of their unrestricted power IS THE POINT…and it has all been honed into a big game for them. (“Them” being those wielding the levers of power behind the husk of emptiness that is FJB…and, to be sure, they do giggle about all of this continuation of undefined “Hope and Change” over at the Obama place every night.) EXAMPLE: How many times in the last decade has a Democrat president spend months telling us that he does not have the power to do something and then he wakes up one morning and does exactly that. And then the empty headed media whores play along – reliably incurious and willfully compliant – exactly as we have come to expect. In many ways the powerful also enjoy the intellectually shallow media narrative that always follows…it is but another demonstration of their power (and something they need to exercise to maintain efficient working control).

This is a powerful lens through which to most accurately view current events these days. But to see the full scope of the relentless Progressive attack on We the People from within our government – don’t think for a minute that this is as simple as R vs D – I would send you back to at least the shenanigans displayed during the ramming of Obamacare down our throats, if not the blatant illegalities associated with the auto bailout shortly before that (See: The Auto Bailout and the Rule of Law). I posit that a review of just about all major news events since then – with an eye on the fact that their blatant disregard for the guardrails on power was an intentional and important part of the script – would explain much about how and why we got to where we are today. The demonstration of power and exercise of control is all part of the process to undermine liberty and the rule of law.

The unwise path we now follow emerges in well known territory. I return again to Victor Serge [1890-1947]…he knew the destination very well:

The most shameless lying conceivable blazed out before our very eyes. But as witnesses we were practically gagged. In Pravda I could read the accounts (all of them mangled) of the Trials. Our abyss grows deeper and more perilous.^[3]…and 2024 looms very large.

The second is a reminder that we are not a united We the People anymore. It is among the building blocks of the Republic – citizens, cities, and states – that the cancer of its destruction takes shape. From The Slow, Steady Unraveling of the Ties that Bind (February 18, 2024):

A mere twenty-one days ago, near the end of the conversation under my post titled ‘The federal government has broken the compact between the United States and the States’, in which I repeated a critical question regarding our expiring Republic since just after the 2020 election (“At what point do some of these united states tire of others not participating in the agreed to compact in good faith?”), I made note:

Let’s just go ahead and identify New York as one of those not participating in good faith.

Needless to say, but New York did not do anything this week to improve their position among those loyal to the idea of a constitutional republic:

Again, as the one who mentions here quite often that I intend to always keep my feet firmly planted in a red county in a red state, I am also very supportive of those in a position to take more active measures. …

To repeat the obvious to the those among the thinking world tonight: Let’s just go ahead and identify New York as one of those not participating in good faith. The fact that no one among the powers of New York stepped in to stop this implosion of the ‘modern conscience’ proves just that…or that this was all planned and directed from above that pay grade. Or both.

Of course, no one with a functioning brain doubts any longer that all of this lawfare was planned and directed from the center of American governmental power…the Obama compound with FJB as the perfect, braindead tool. (I find it amusing to see the occasional useful idiot in the media who will still interject a denial of this collusion into the other  scripted talking points they are mouthing for their masters.) 

As this ramble keeps growing, my mind is drifting toward Alexander Hamilton and The Farmer Refuted (1775). If I start quoting that, this will go on all night…and I don’t think anyone wants that. I will get back to this after some rest.

As I head down to pour a stronger-than-normal cocktail on this very dark day: Our abyss grows deeper and more perilous…the days ahead will be interesting and the 2024 campaign/election looms very large. As always: FJB
